Roughly 2 weeks into 2014 and Quin and I have gotten off to a good start in our quest to run 750 miles. Through 16 days we are at 31 miles. We have done it on 11 runs with 5 days off. So our average run distance is just under 3 miles. It has us a bit behind pace to hit 750 miles for the year because we have taken 5 rest days. We are not concerned though because we're early in the year, getting our legs adjusted, and dealing with some difficult weather.
Fitting in a run each day has been a bit of a challenge, but we are getting accustomed to running in the dark if we have to. We have reflective vests and flash lights to keep us safe. Additionally we've endured some really cold temperatures and some early mornings to ensure we got our mileage in. On Monday January 6th we ran 2.2 miles on the W&OD trail in Reston in 20 degree temperatures with a wind chill of about 10. While under most circumstances I would have been miserable, being out there running with Quin had a smile on my face the entire time. We joked and laughed on the run about how cold it was and how crazy we must be to be out there. Quin even exclaimed that the run was going to put some hair on his chest. I'm so proud of how excited he is be pursuing a goal, and how he talks to me about his love for being healthy and fit. He's a great, great kid and a great wingman.
