Apology for poor audio in daniel scott interview

1/29/2014

I owe a big apology to listeners, and an even bigger apology to my most recent guest, Daniel Scott, for the poor audio quality of our interview. The great interview that I did with Daniel was overshadowed by a constant and annoying tapping sound that came through on the recording. It was the result of technical problems with my microphone. As a result I’ve learned the lesson that I need to test, test, and retest my equipment and recording levels prior to every interview. Daniel was talking to me from France and sounded perfectly fine, but I managed to screw up the audio coming from my own microphone!

I feel that I wasted Daniel’s time and am very sorry for that. All future recordings will be of a higher quality for sure. Although I may be an amateur, I take this seriously and truly want to deliver a product with great content and technical quality.

Thanks,

Scott

Quin 2014 Running Update #1

Roughly 2 weeks into 2014 and Quin and I have gotten off to a good start in our quest to run 750 miles. Through 16 days we are at 31 miles. We have done it on 11 runs with 5 days off. So our average run distance is just under 3 miles. It has us a bit behind pace to hit 750 miles for the year because we have taken 5 rest days. We are not concerned though because we're early in the year, getting our legs adjusted, and dealing with some difficult weather.

Fitting in a run each day has been a bit of a challenge, but we are getting accustomed to running in the dark if we have to. We have reflective vests and flash lights to keep us safe. Additionally we've endured some really cold temperatures and some early mornings to ensure we got our mileage in. On Monday January 6th we ran 2.2 miles on the W&OD trail in Reston in 20 degree temperatures with a wind chill of about 10. While under most circumstances I would have been miserable, being out there running with Quin had a smile on my face the entire time. We joked and laughed on the run about how cold it was and how crazy we must be to be out there. Quin even exclaimed that the run was going to put some hair on his chest. I'm so proud of how excited he is be pursuing a goal, and how he talks to me about his love for being healthy and fit. He's a great, great kid and a great wingman.

My inspiration

My 8-year-old son Quin has been an enormous help to me since launching the podcast in October. Rarely more than a day or two passes without him asking me about who the next guest may be, or making suggestions about whom I should interview. He has listened to all of my podcasts multiple times and is now expressing interest in starting his own podcast!

We are always making plans for our next project, trip, adventure, etc.  So when he told me that he wanted to step outside of his comfort zone by set a running goal for 2014 I was very excited. Naturally I thought it would be fun to interview Quin about his running goal for 2014, and his other goals and aspirations.

I am constantly amazed at the incredible enthusiasm and optimism that he approaches nearly all tasks with. Walking our dog Comet is one of the few exceptions to his enthusiastic approach. His attitude, humor, and loving soul are truly the greatest source of inspiration in nearly everything that I do. Having him and his sister look up to me and Bethany as their role models in life is the greatest responsibility we will ever have. But as much as our children may strive to be like us, I am everyday striving to be more like them.

So in 2014, identify what truly inspires you. Take that inspiration, and act on it, to do something outside of your comfort zone. You will not regret it.
